The Toro 21″ Super Recycler with Personal Pace and SmartStow is the premium expression of what a residential walk-behind mower can be, built for homeowners who want professional-grade results without hiring a lawn care crew. At $699, it sits at the top of the gas push mower category and justifies that price with a commercial-grade cast-aluminum deck that outlasts the stamped steel found on nearly every competitor in its price range. Powered by a 163cc Briggs & Stratton EXi engine delivering 7.25 foot-pounds of gross torque, it starts reliably season after season and is backed by Toro’s impressive 5-year guaranteed-to-start promise, which is one of the strongest reliability commitments in the walk-behind mower market.
The cutting system is where the Super Recycler truly earns its name. Dual-blade accelerators combined with under-deck wedges shred grass clippings into an ultra-fine mulch that Toro calls Lawn Vitamins, returning nutrients directly into the soil for a noticeably greener, healthier lawn over time. Vortex Technology enhances airflow through the deck and into the 1.8-bushel bagging tunnel, moving clippings further back into the bag so you empty it less often. The Personal Pace Auto-Drive self-propel system is one of the most intuitive available, automatically matching your walking speed with no levers or knobs to adjust, and FLEX Handle Suspension absorbs vibration from bumps and uneven terrain to reduce fatigue during longer sessions.
Practical details are equally well thought out. SmartStow vertical storage lets the mower stand upright against a wall, saving up to 70% of floor space in your garage or shed compared to storing it flat. Ball-bearing wheels add durability and a smoother rolling feel, and the adjustable handle accommodates different operator heights. With an 86% recommendation rate across over 600 reviews and availability at Lowe’s, Tractor Supply, and Ace Hardware, the Super Recycler is consistently regarded as one of the best residential walk-behind mowers money can buy for yards up to half an acre.
